I bought this at the end of May so that I could use one set up with both my desktop (running XP) and my laptop (running Vista). Connection was easy. Everything was recognized on the first try. I had absolutely no problems with the desktop connection. It was the laptop that proved to be a problem.
On the laptop I was going from a 15in display to the display on a 20in monitor. The resolution on the laptop was 1440×900. On the monitor is was 1280×1024. After a bit of tweaking, I finally got the laptop connection to display on the monitor under the correct resolution. This worked for a couple of weeks with no problem. After that couple of weeks, anytime I switched from the laptop to the desktop and stayed on the desktop from longer than 10mins, the laptop connection “lost” the correct resolution setting. I reset them, but again when I switched to the desktop, they were once again lost.
After going back and forth for a while, and setting and resetting, I found that if I made sure the laptop was the first to start up, the settings would hold. That worked for a while. I even tried connecting the monitor directly to the laptop to make sure the settings were correct and then connected the KVM. Again that held for a while.
Eventually it became so frustrating and time consuming, I removed the monitor connection all together. Sometimes the only resolution I could get on the monitor through the laptop connection was 800×600! What’s the point of a 20in monitor if the best resolution I could get is 800×600?
Anyway, after a couple of months of sharing nothing but the keyboard and mouse, even that began to fail. Either one or the other failed to be recognized by the desktop upon switching over from the laptop. I often had to unplug and replug the USB connection to get them to work.
I had the same issues using two different laptops. At beginning of October, I disconnected it completely.

This product works very well, but for my laptop, I had to buy this adapter: Dvi Adapter Dvi-d Male To Dvi-i Female.
There are (at least) two different dvi connector types, dvi-i and dvi-d. My laptop has the wrong type for the cable that came with this switch. You can look at the connector on your computer and see the difference. If the connector for the monitor does not have the four extra pin ports around the flat pin, then you will need the adapter (check out the photo in the adapter mentioned above). The adapter makes everything work properly. I was concerned that the audio portion of the switch wouldn’t work properly with the adapter, but it was no problem.
This switch also floated around on my desk after all the cables were attached. It just isn’t heavy enough to stay in one place. I fixed that problem with a bit of hook-and-loop connector.
Other than those two issues, I would definitely recommend this product. It easily connects the two computers to one keyboard, mouse and digital monitor, and does so without any problems.

Conversations with God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1)
I found this book interesting. Contrary to the teachings of The Holy Bible, the author claims that satan is a “myth,” that Jesus was only a great person (no mention of “Savior”), and seemed to imply that the “things written down 2000 years ago” are open to debate. My questions is this: If all these things written 2000 years ago about God and Jesus were true, WHY would God, in “speaking with Mr. Neale Donald Walsch (as he claims)”, suddenly reverse his previous statements about satan, the validity of the Bible, and the absolute sovereignty of Christ?
I am a skeptic, and I like to think I have an open mind. This book was recommended to me by a colleague. However, I could not help but thinking that Mr. Walsch definitely has a “profit motive” in his writings. “If the item sells, continue to write.” Never mind it may be misinformation. Mr. Walsh, I hope you get this “God thing” right- your eternity may depend on it.
Please reference “Evidence that Demands a Verdict,” by Josh McDowell. A professed athiest that became a Christian because of his research. Go figure.

I’m using this to power 4 Panasonic BB-HCM531A outdoor networked security cameras from the PoE ports. I also have a laptop connected to it running security recorder software. It’s connected to my home network running perfectly, passing the video data streams from the cameras. It’s on 24/7 and doesn’t run hot. I like the metal case, compact size, status indicator LEDs on the front, and the generous cord length supplied on the external power adapter. The current price is quite good when compared to other PoE capable switches available on the market.
