Well, one of my friends gave me this book and told me that it was the best book she had read. So I decided to give it a try too. Actually, this book like everything else has pros and cons. The idea about a vampire romance was truly genius and very unique. But I feel that the story wasnt written to its full potential. Also another good thing was that Edward Cullen the main hero was a really storng character. But I think that the book was too long and even though I have read longer books some parts really seemed like repetitions of other parts and useless conversations that were just there to make the book look fat. I think a story as good as this could have been written in a much better way. The parts about shopping and other girly stuff could have been easily cut out or edited. Some scenes were unnecessary but well, this is Stephanie Meyer’s first book and since at least the basic idea was good, I will not be too harsh. Even so, this is definately better than most of its sequels. Just that I felt it could have been put in a better way.

We got it mainly for our five year old son, but we all love to play it. It keeps us moving, and laughing. I’m so glad we bought it.

Artemis Fowl 1 is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Probably in my top 10. The characters were very different from each other, each with his own personality. This book had an okay plot: Artemis was desperate to get his family’s wealth back by stealing the gold from fairies. I enjoyed it. This book engrossed me entirely. I thirst to read the next books and so might you.

I hope Kathryn Stockett feels very proud of this her first novel. Among the criticisms I’ve read, I think the silliest is that the historical details are not completely accurate. Talk about missing the point! *The Help* is a story – not a history. Stockett takes liberties with historical details (and says she does) because she is focused on painstakingly drawing her characters. The backdrop is simply color-washed: it’s important, but not Stockett’s emphasis.

One of the things that makes this book hard to put down is that the characters are so compelling, even when their actions are not. This is no small achievement – and it might have been difficult for a Northern author to achieve with such confidence. Stockton has clearly considered the subject from a personal perspective.

On a side note, I deeply appreciate the timeliness of the story. The black women in *The Help* are often marginalized – even unintentionally – by the whites, in much the way so many media outlets are marginalizing blacks in the new Tea Party movement. I hadn’t thought of news reporters as provincial or ignorant before reading *The Help*, but the story reminded me how easy it can be for people within an accepted social context to marginalize others without even realizing what they are doing. No matter how many American citizens participated in the civil rights movement, no matter how much we celebrate over the election of the first black US president, no matter how loudly black Tea Partiers shout that their necks are not red, TV stations featuring monochromatic (pale) lineups continue to sideline black citizens in the national political debate. As if they’re offended when black Americanas don’t think en masse! I find it so blatantly condescending, I can barely believe it’s happening the 21st century! *The Help* helped me to put it in perspective: hope and hard work can effect change. Thank you, Kathryn Stockett.

I feel duped by these reviews. This book would be perfect for my 11 year old cousin, but is by no means a great book for all ages as these reviews would indicate. It is very slapstick and dorky. You could read the whole thing in a day and forget it even sooner. Also, Artemis Fowl is a punk.
